Rehearsal Dinner: What To Wear?

Rehearsal Dinner

Deciding what to wear to a rehearsal dinner doesn’t need to be stressful. Being a smaller group of people, the dinner can be one of the best parts of the whole wedding! However, this doesn’t always mean the bride will be ok with people arriving in casual styles. Here are some tips for figuring out what to wear for a rehearsal dinner.

Do Some Research

As you begin to plan out your outfit, try looking through the happy couples’ wedding website and see if they’ve outlined the type of attire they expect their guests to wear. Formal means they expect men in ties and women in dresses or dressy slacks. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when choosing your outfit. In fact, female pant suits are a very trendy style this year so it may be an especially relevant option.

Semi-formal means that men can get away with a nice sport coat while women can wear a more casual range of dresses or what would also pass as business-casual attire. Think of brands like Free People that have styles that can be pulled off in both a casual and dressy setting. This allows you to easily dress up or dress down your look. If you’re on a budget or just want to save more money to spend on a wedding gift, consider cheaper alternatives such as secondhand Free People clothing to strike the perfect look without paying full-price.

If their website says casual, you don’t need to worry too much about what you’re wearing. However, you might want to stay on the safe side and avoid edgier clothing like jeans or tops with holes.

Check the Invites

Hopefully, you’ve saved all the invites because even if they don’t have a website, they may have included the dress code right on one of the many correspondences they’ve sent out. It may not be from the couple themselves as the dinner is usually thrown by their family.

If it does not explicitly make mention of a dress code, you can always check the venue. If the rehearsal dinner is at someone’s home, it may be a bit more casual. On the contrary, if a family is hosting it at a beautiful venue like one of the rooms at the Historic Oakland, then you should consider a much more formal outfit.

Ask Around

If you’re afraid to bother the happy couple, you could start with their parents or the maid of honor. Chances are they probably already have a good idea of what the dress code is. If not, they have the fast-track to the bride and can easily get this information for you.

By following these tips, you can rest assured that you arrive to the rehearsal dinner in style, ready to celebrate the coming union of your loved ones. After all, a wedding is a time to rejoice and enjoy the time you’re spending with your family and friends.
